# GitHub Copilot CLI

The You.com plugin for [GitHub Copilot CLI](https://docs.github.com/en/copilot/how-tos/copilot-cli) installs four skills and the You.com MCP servers from the [agent-skills repo](https://github.com/youdotcom-oss/agent-skills). The MCP servers give Copilot tools such as `you-search`, `you-contents`, `you-research`, and `you-finance`. The skills tell it when to use each one and how to cite what it finds.

> **Install the Docs MCP server**
>
> The Docs MCP server lets your agent search over the entirety of these docs. Free to use.
>
> Install `https://you.com/docs/_mcp/server`. See the [Docs MCP Server guide](/docs/agents/docs-mcp-server) to learn more.

## Install the Plugin

## Add the Marketplace and Install

```bash
copilot plugin marketplace add youdotcom-oss/agent-skills
copilot plugin install you@you-com
```

Inside a Copilot CLI session, run the same commands as `/plugin marketplace add youdotcom-oss/agent-skills` and `/plugin install you@you-com`.

## Sign In

The `you`, `you-research`, and `you-finance` servers sign in with your You.com account over OAuth. If `/mcp` lists one as needing auth, run `/mcp auth <server-name>`, such as `/mcp auth you`, to open the browser sign-in.

## Try It

```text
Use you-web to find what's new in the latest TypeScript release, with sources.
```

## What the Plugin Installs

**MCP servers.** Run `/mcp` to see them:

| Server         | Endpoint                                   | Auth  |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ----- |
| `you`          | `https://api.you.com/mcp`                  | OAuth |
| `you-research` | `https://api.you.com/mcp/research`         | OAuth |
| `you-finance`  | `https://api.you.com/mcp/finance`          | OAuth |
| `you-discover` | `https://api.you.com/mcp?profile=discover` | None  |

**Skills.**

| Skill          | Use it for                                                                                                            |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `you-web` | Current web search and URL reading, with sources cited. Switches to keyless `you-search` when no credentials are set. |
| `you-research` | Choosing between agent-led searching and a single cited `you-research` call                                           |
| `you-finance`  | Finance questions through the `you-finance` tool                                                                      |
| `you-discover` | Finding the right You.com API, MCP server, or SDK for a project you're building |

## Use the MCP Server Without the Plugin

To add only the tools, without the skills, add the You.com MCP server with `copilot mcp add`. The CLI writes it to `~/.copilot/mcp-config.json`.

**Free profile** (`you-search` and `you-discover`, 100 queries per day, no account):

```bash
copilot mcp add --transport http you-com "https://api.you.com/mcp?profile=free"
```

**API key.** Get a key at [you.com/platform](https://you.com/platform):

```bash
copilot mcp add --transport http you-com https://api.you.com/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <YDC_API_KEY>"
```

## Troubleshooting

#### Plugin not found in marketplace

Inside a Copilot CLI session, refresh the marketplace with `/plugin marketplace update you-com`, then retry `/plugin install you@you-com`.

#### You.com tools missing after install

Run `copilot plugin list` to confirm `you` is installed. If it's disabled, run `copilot plugin enable you`, then start a new session.

#### Duplicate You.com tools

If you added the MCP server by hand before installing the plugin, remove the manual entry with `/mcp delete you-com`.
