# Hermes Agent

The You.com plugin for [Hermes Agent](https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/), the open-source agent from Nous Research, installs four skills and the You.com MCP servers from the [agent-skills repo](https://github.com/youdotcom-oss/agent-skills). It ships as a portable [Agent Plugins](https://agent-plugins.org/specification) package. The MCP servers give Hermes tools such as `you-search`, `you-contents`, `you-research`, and `you-finance`. The skills tell it when to use each one and how to cite what it finds.

## Install the Plugin

## Install and Enable

Hermes installs portable plugins disabled. The install command asks whether to enable it and defaults to no, so run `hermes plugins enable you` if you skipped that prompt. Because the plugin installs from GitHub instead of the Hermes plugin catalog, Hermes also shows an unreviewed-source warning.

## Sign In

The `you`, `you-research`, and `you-finance` servers sign in with your You.com account over OAuth. If one asks for authorization, run `hermes mcp login <server-name>`, such as `hermes mcp login you`, or click **Authorize** on the server in Hermes Desktop.

## What the Plugin Installs

**MCP servers.** Hermes names each tool `mcp__<server>__<tool>`, such as `mcp__you__you-search`:

## Use the MCP Server Without the Plugin

To add only the tools, without the skills, add the You.com MCP server under `mcp_servers` in `~/.hermes/config.yaml`. Run `/reload-mcp` or start a new session to load it.

## Troubleshooting

#### Plugin installed but no You.com tools

Run `hermes plugins list` to check whether `you` is enabled. If it isn't, run `hermes plugins enable you`, then start a new session.

#### A server needs authorization

Run `hermes mcp login <server-name>` and finish the sign-in in the browser, then run `/reload-mcp`.
